Community Venues
Two community venues have been identified as suited for running workshops and hands on activities around gardening and project planning – St Sebastian’s Community Centre and the Willow Tree Health Centre/ LKYPG youth allotment.
Willow Tree/LKYPG
There are a couple of rooms for training, and a space out the back that is ready for gardening but that hasn’t really been used yet. Rob has also spoken with LKYPG who would like to see the youth allotment next door to the centre improved with community volunteers helping and being involved.
St Sebastian’s
Kevin Coakley reports – After building the planters in the car park of the community centre, 60 tonnes of soil were delivered to the area students and staff from Salford University all came along to help over a number of days. Fairbridge youth group came down to on a 3 day practical as they had recently acquired an allotment at Weaste.
PCT have money for environmental work and Kevin is going to apply to them to get more fruit bushes and plants.
St Sebs water bills are charged by the amount of land that will not absorb water. So this project has lowered the water bills.
